- The need to document progress arises from the gap in the literature.
- The practitioner voice has not been heard often enough; in traditional journals there is relatively little about the current initiatives being taken to make tourism more sustainable, and to create change.
- Our ambition is that through Progress in Responsible Tourism this gap will be addressed so that academics will have access to the latest developments in industry; access which will also benefit their students and generate greater dialogue between academics, businesses and government.
Relaunching as an annual publication of the ICRT global, reporting on the annual Responsible Tourism Awards and with a commentary of the progress, or lack of it, revealed. Our ambition is to create a practitioners’ handbook, a manual to encourage south-south exchange, a “cook book” to inspire adoption, adaptation and replication, to speed progress. As we say on the front page of the ICRT global website, quoting Sir Isaac Newton wrote in 1675: “If I see further, it is by standing on the shoulders of giants”. The giants of Responsible Tourism are those people who are practicing it, in every corner of the world. We want to share that collective knowledge to help us all to see further” and achieve more, faster..
