Hotel Carbon Index Launched

Today sees the launch of a new Hotel Carbon Index which will assist in driving change. It measures carbon pollution per bed night and will provide a transparent means of measuring and comparing the carbon emissions of different properties.

Hotels and venues pay a nominal annual fee to participate. They provide a
range of constant and dynamic data that is used to calculate a unit measurement
of the carbon cost of an individual night use of a room (this varies by room
type & size) or a half day use of a meeting or function room.

Over time they re-submit the dynamic data to allow for seasonal variations
and changes in their energy management programme. Participating hotels receive
a certificate of their rating, to support their CSR statements.

The data is made available via this website in cooperation with The Carbon
Consultancy � partners in CarePAR and recognised leaders in the field of
environmental travel management.
